British Lymphology Society Award for LSN

The British Lymphology Society (BLS) gala dinner, held during their annual conference, is always an enjoyable evening, but this year was even more special as I was asked, as LSN Nurse Advisor, to receive a very special BLS Award, for ‘Raising Awareness of Lymphoedema Amongst Professionals’ on behalf of the LSN.

It was the first time in 14 years that Anita Wallace had not been with me;
she and Karen Friett were returning home from the 2-day GP conference in Harrogate where they were coincidentally raising awareness of lymphoedema!

Although I was inappropriately dressed to receive such a prestigious award (the themed evening meant I was dressed up in a 50s style outfit!), Peter Vacher, Managing Director of Sigvaris Britain Ltd who were the sponsors of the award, graciously presented me with an engraved glass trophy, a certificate and a cheque for £250!

The LSN are renowned amongst the BLS fraternity for their hard work and commitment in raising the profile of lymphoedema – not least with the 26 fact sheets that they co-ordinate and widely distribute amongst professionals and clinics. The recent BMJ Learning online module for healthcare professionals has, however, been pivotal in increasing GP knowledge/awareness of the condition and I think it is probably this exceptional work that has led to this great accolade.

WELL DONE LSN – I was never so proud to be part of your team!!!
